Create a character card — no sign-up

An OC template is a fill-in sheet for your original character: name, looks, personality, backstory and relationships. Pick the short version (8 fields) for a character you made this morning or the full one (24 fields) for a character you know well. Every field you fill in appears on the card beside the form as you type. Copy as text pastes the same layout into Google Docs, a Toyhouse profile or a Discord channel, and Save as image downloads the card as a PNG.

Make your OC sheet

How to fill in this template

Start short. A name, three personality words and what they want are enough to roleplay or write with; switch to Full when the character grows. What you typed carries over.

Pick three personality words that pull against each other. "Cheerful, loyal, reckless" says more than a list of ten adjectives.

Be specific where artists look first: distinguishing marks and usual outfit. Say which side the scar is on and what color the jacket is.

Leave a field blank rather than guess. Copy as text keeps a blank field as a bare label, so your sheet stays a template you can finish next week.

Fill the template in four steps

1

Pick Short or Full

Short has 8 fields for a brand-new character; Full has 24 in six sections.

2

Fill in the fields

Type as much or as little as you know. Each field appears on the card as you type.

3

Copy as text

Paste the sheet into Google Docs, a Toyhouse profile, a Tumblr post or a Discord channel.

4

Save the card or keep the OC

Download the card as a PNG, or keep the character in a free LitMemo account next to the rest of your cast.

Frequently asked questions

How do I use this OC template in Google Docs?
Fill in the fields, press Copy as text, and paste into a new Google Doc. Each section (Basics, Appearance, Personality and so on) arrives on its own line; turn those lines into headings if you want them in the document outline. The blank template further down this page pastes the same way.
What is the difference between the short and the full OC template?
The short template has 8 fields: name, age and pronouns, species and role, a one-line look, three personality words, what they want, what is stopping them, and how they talk. That is enough to start roleplaying or writing. The full template has 24 fields in six sections: Basics, Appearance, Personality, Backstory, Abilities and Relationships. Switching keeps what you typed.
Can I turn my OC template into an image?
Yes. Every field you fill in shows up on the card next to the form, and Save as image downloads it as a PNG for a Toyhouse profile, a Tumblr post or a Discord character channel. Empty fields are left off the card.
Can I add a picture of my OC to the card?
Yes. Pick a picture next to the card and it goes into the card's portrait. The picture stays in your browser and is never uploaded to our servers, and Save as image includes it.
Do I need an account?
No. Filling in, copying and saving the image all work without signing up. Keep this OC in LitMemo puts the character into a free account, where you can design your own card with the fields you want and keep the rest of your cast next to it.
What happens to my OC when I keep it in LitMemo?
It is saved in this browser first and moves into your account when you sign up. Name, looks, personality, backstory and abilities land on the matching lines of the LitMemo character sheet; everything else, like birthday, likes, fears and relationships, is kept in the character's notes, so every field you typed comes along.
